Stephan Lichtenstein of Leitermann

“After years of standstill in the online area, we started a multi-stage strategy process in 2019 to implement our digital goals. apollon has already supported us in the area of data management and later also convinced us with their shop competence. Working with apollon was great, we found the team to be extremely customer- and solution-oriented.”

Stephan Lichtenstein, Managing Director of LEITERMANN GmbH & Co. Fachmarkt KG

Initial situation

Two stores, many systems

Before OMN

  • Two separate online stores, each with its own branding
  • Fragmented landscape of systems and solutions
  • Product data not managed independently of channels

For eight generations, LEITERMANN has been supplying a wide range of target groups with construction, DIY and garden products as a generalist.

At the start of the project, the company ran two differently branded online stores alongside a fragmented landscape of systems and solutions. According to Managing Director Stephan Lichtenstein, LEITERMANN started a multi-stage strategy process in 2019, after years of standstill online, to implement its digital goals.

Project objectives

What LEITERMANN wanted to achieve

01

Relevant customer experiences

Define personas and address them in a targeted way to increase customer satisfaction.

02

A consistent, integrated digital experience

Merge the two stores into one consistent, comprehensive brand experience and create synergies – with a design that suits the target groups.

03

Future-oriented data management

Define a powerful, dynamic data model for channel-independent product data management.

04

Modern technology that includes the stores

Modernize technology and infrastructure while integrating the brick-and-mortar stores into the digital offering.

The solution

Data first, then the store

apollon first centralized data management with OMN and then built the new store with Shopware 6.

Central data management with OMN

With a flexible, well-designed data model, product data was maintained centrally in OMN and prepared for output to all relevant channels.

One store instead of two

Based on Shopware 6, two differently branded online stores became one consistent e-commerce solution – design, user experience and technology from a single source.

Middleware for store and marketplaces

Middleware developed by apollon fed the store and the ten marketplaces relevant to LEITERMANN – including Kaufland, eBay, Amazon and Mercateo – with approx. 100,000 products and approx. 300,000 images from OMN. According to the project documentation (as of 2022), this also included product feeds for price comparison portals and affiliate networks, such as Google Shopping and idealo.

Click and Collect

Customers selected products in the online store and picked them up at the store after purchase.

Keywords in product descriptions

A plug-in automatically linked terms in product texts, making it easier to navigate to spare parts.

Product variants

A plug-in displayed all product variants as well as manufacturers including their logos.
