STARTING POINT
Millions of assets, fragmented systems.
Before OMN
- A desktop-based DAM (Canto Cumulus) that no longer scaled with growth
- Millions of assets spread across heterogeneous systems and structures
- Limited transparency and cross-departmental collaboration
- High demands from e-commerce and insert and promotional-media production without an integrated solution
SEGMÜLLER is one of Germany’s top 10 furniture retailers: a long-established family business with more than 4,000 employees, seven furniture stores, its own upholstery production, five logistics centres, and one of the country’s largest furniture online shops. As its digital channels grew, the existing Canto Cumulus DAM — a desktop-based solution — reached its limits: millions of assets were spread across heterogeneous systems and structures.
This limited transparency, efficiency, and cross-departmental collaboration — particularly in e-commerce and insert and promotional-media production. SEGMÜLLER decided on a future-proof, fully web-based platform that manages content centrally and automates processes.
PROJECT GOALS
Clear objectives for the project.
Replace the DAM in around six months
Fully replace the existing DAM landscape — without disruption to day-to-day operations. A future-proof, web-based platform as the central foundation for all digital assets.
Migrate millions of assets
Migrate several million assets, including all metadata, without loss. Consolidate existing structures into a single, searchable data foundation.
Seamless integration
Seamless connection to ERP, PIM, and the web shop, plus central user management via Entra ID. Interfaces to the multimedia viewer, the CDN, and further marketing and publishing processes.
THE SOLUTION
OMN as the central media & publishing platform.
As part of a comprehensive evaluation process, SEGMÜLLER invited several market-leading systems to pitch. OMN stood out clearly thanks to its architecture, integration capabilities, and process strength. Today, OMN serves as the central hub for all digital assets at SEGMÜLLER.

From the showroom to the online shop: OMN consolidates all product and brand images in a single central platform. Its dynamic imaging and CDN architecture calculates the right image formats in real time and delivers them with high performance — consistently across every channel.
Project delivery
Working closely across business units, IT, and the project team, the existing DAM solution was fully replaced in around six months — from spec sign-off in September 2024 to productive go-live in March 2025. As part of the migration from Canto Cumulus to OMN, several million assets were moved to the new platform, including all metadata.
Technical integration
OMN was seamlessly embedded into the IT and commerce architecture. A newly designed dynamic imaging architecture based on AWS Lambda and Amazon CloudFront (CDN) calculates the web shop’s image formats in real time and delivers optimised product images at high performance. Functions developed specifically for the project extend the platform: a filewatcher automatically monitors and synchronises the connected file servers, and OpenIn opens files directly from the DAM in the relevant desktop applications. A CI Hub integration with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop and a similarity search round out the solution.
Process optimisation
Insert and promotional-media production are now managed through workflows. Standardised approval and communication processes noticeably accelerate coordination and production cycles.
Long-term security
The system’s source code is held in escrow. This safeguards the investment for the long term and forms the basis for a sustainable, partnership-based collaboration.

“This project shows what can be achieved when business units, IT, and the software partner work together consistently. The result is forward-looking, both technologically and organisationally.”

AI & OUTLOOK
Intelligent processes, thought through together.
The platform is built for growth — and you decide how far it goes. Together with apollon, SEGMÜLLER is opening up new use cases step by step.
Intelligent metadata enrichment
AI-powered metadata enrichment reduces manual maintenance and makes assets easier to find across every part of the business.
Fully automated content distribution
In the future, content will be distributed fully automatically across all channels — from the central source to every touchpoint.

“OMN has taken our media and process landscape to a new level. The successful migration of millions of assets, combined with process optimisation, underlines the power of the new platform.”

RESULTS
A single source of truth for all assets.
With OMN, SEGMÜLLER has created a central, reliable single source of truth for all digital assets — moving from a desktop DAM to a fully web-based platform that forms the foundation for more efficient processes across every business unit.
Speed & transparency
Noticeably shorter lead times for product images in the web shop, and a clearly improved process quality in insert and promotional-media production. Greater transparency and full traceability of every process step deliver lasting time savings in day-to-day operations.
Simplified data maintenance
Consistent system integration significantly reduces complexity: ERP, PIM, and the web shop are seamlessly interlinked, and parallel communication and coordination paths are eliminated. Clear structures and responsibilities make everyday data maintenance easier.
Real-time delivery via CDN
The dynamic imaging architecture based on AWS Lambda and Amazon CloudFront calculates the image formats for the web shop in real time and delivers optimised product images with high performance — a scalable foundation for growing digital channels.
