  • Deterministic matching compares unique keys — GTIN/EAN, item numbers, VAT IDs or customer numbers. It is precise but fails when keys are missing or inconsistent.
  • Probabilistic (fuzzy) matching scores the similarity of several fields — names, addresses, descriptions — and calculates a match probability. This is how “Drill BM-500” and “BM500 power drill” are recognised as the same product.
