Initial situation
Many trade fairs, many languages, many channels.
For Koelnmesse, an internationally active trade fair organizer, central data management is the basis for efficiently coordinating and producing a wide variety of communication objects – in many different languages and on different platforms.
One of the challenges is the structured management and demand-oriented provision of all media and document data from around 75 trade fairs. To bring the communication objects and the systems involved – such as a translation memory system and web-to-print – into line, Koelnmesse needs a clear data structure and a central data repository. Online Media Net (OMN) is the tool for this.

OMN as the central repository for all assets.
All assets are stored once and media-neutrally in OMN. From there, they are output for print and online and transferred into the appropriate structures and templates.

Connection to web-to-print
Print data and advertising materials from the web-to-print system flow into OMN automatically – assigned by trade fair and year. A workflow checks for new data every hour. The two systems are also linked via single sign-on.
Formatting “on the fly”
Assets are adjusted directly in the system and transferred straight into the appropriate templates.
User profiles and structures
User profiles assign assets clearly to predefined structures.
Provision for users
A shopping cart with download options, dedicated areas for purchased images and key visuals, and the automatic filing of expired licensed images make working with media easier.

Since 2023, Koelnmesse has been expanding OMN further into its central content tool in a new project phase: advertising materials and their variants are structured in PIM and Channel Management by trade fair, language and target group, existing assets including metadata have been migrated, and workflows manage channel requests, the advertising material process and translations – including notifications to external service providers. Video and InDesign documents are also to be managed in OMN.
